What?! The Confidence Coaches 4 Kids have a blog?! Heck yeah we do! With grateful hearts, we welcome you to our site. Finally, the blog is up and running, and we are thrilled you chose to join us. We have been anxiously anticipating this day for a long while. We finally get to share our hearts with you through our writing. In this blog, we will unpack many of the struggles and challenges faced by teens. This is not a stuffy, purely informational blog. Rather, we prefer to write from the heart, focusing on the importance of relationships and mindset. Together, we will engage in the intentional heart work that helps with the development of confidence in our kids. Who are we kidding? This applies to us as adults too.
We ask you to give us a chance to walk with you on this journey. Whether you are a teen, a parent, or an educator facing challenges, this blog is for you. For us, this is the blog we have needed for years as educators, to help us with connection and support of our students. For the adults serving and mentoring kids, use this resource as a way to focus on positive relationships with the the kids in your life. Our hope for you, as you read our posts, is you will feel uncomfortable, yet supported. Navigating through our uncomfortable feelings and experiences, is when we experience the most growth and change.
For our beloved teen readers, use this blog as a way to navigate the struggles of middle school, high school, and beyond. Together, we will dig into and dispel the lies we are conditioned to believe. Our hope is you will develop the confidence to walk through life’s experiences, with us in your corner, being 100% true to who you are. Come along with us as we help you understand the importance of a positive mindset, healthy relationships, and the impact perseverance will have on your life. It might be a bumpy ride in which you have to fight feelings of doubt and discomfort. We will walk with you on this journey, to help you become the best version of yourself. Are you ready to hear the truth about who you were made to be?
So what do a couple of 40 year old educators know about teens and mindset, or even strategies educators need to connect? Well, we’ve been at this for a while. Our journey started, while co-teaching math in a smelly portable building, with a group of amazing 6th graders. Fresh off reading, Mathematical Mindsets: Unleashing Students’ Potential through Creative Math, Inspiring Messages and Innovative Teaching, by Jo Boaler, we decided to intentionally focus on students’ math identities. We encountered some pretty negative identities and math insecurities right away; especially in our female students. Over the course of the year, we embedded intentional self talk and engagement strategies, and helped bust up the negative myths our students had about their abilities. After seeing their growth, we were hooked!
So how’s this all going to work? Our plan is to provide content to share with you every other week. We are writing from our hearts and current experiences working with students and educators. Therefore, some weeks, our writing will be solely focused on supporting kid readers. Other weeks, we will be in the trenches with educators and parents, attempting to improve our daily interactions with adolescents. This work is not for the faint of heart. We will speak as not only educators, but also as parents and mentors, together on this wild ride. In the meantime, if you are interested in getting a feel for our content, check out our YouTube channel Confidence Coaches 4 Kids. Let’s get started!
With love and gratitude,
Christa and Kasia
